Nui 1st XV win inaugural BOP 1st XV Pre-Season competition
We are incredibly proud to announce the TNT 1st XV Boys completed a clean sweep of 9/9 pre-season victories by taking out the inaugural BOP 1st XV Pre-Season competition.
The TNT Boys played 2 pool games, beating a very tough and physical Katikati team 15-0 in the first round. This was followed by a 29-7 victory over Tauranga Boys to set up a final against Whakatane High School, who were also unbeaten through the pool stages.
The boys battled hard and showed grit and mana to hold out a team that was physically much bigger. They managed to pull out to a 12-5 lead at half-time, but Whakatane battled hard and closed up to 19-17 with just two minutes to go. Whakatane then piled forward throwing everything they had at the TNT Boys, but some brilliant scramble defence and superior fitness levels saw the boys hold on to take the win and set a marker in the Bay of Plenty for the season ahead.
With a great pre-season behind them, the boys now move onto the start of the Bay of Plenty competition and they are in Division 1 playing for the Bill Hill Cup. The first game is this Saturday 8th May, with kick off at 12pm on field 1 at home. It would be great to see some support for the boys as they take on the 2019 competition winners, Trident High School, in what should be a great first game of the season.
