3x3 Northern Basketball Regional Championships B team

TNT Jnr Bs 3x3 Team:

Kieran Steenson, Jamie Sawada-Miller, Karta Murphy, Max Gunderson and Hunter Adam with our Year 9 boys being led by Kieran & Jamie, we knew we would be competitive in the open grade.

Day 1 was tough for our boys as they went up against some even tougher competition. After winning our first game vs Whakatane by default we struggled to find our rhythm after losing our next 2 games by only 1pt. With no coaching allowed on the sideline, the boys knew that had to figure out a system that would see them ending the day with a comprehensive win against St Peter’s (Cambridge) Winning 2 out of our 6 games in day 1, saw us a little further down our pool than we would have like but Kieran Steenson shining bright amongst most athletes he competed against.

Going into Day 2, it didn’t get any easier, losing our first 2 games vs Sancta Maria & Te Koutu by only 2pts. After changing up our plan a wee bit, the boys with their heads still held high, went 3 straight with a dominating win be Greenbay HS & Waitakere College & ending the day with an 12-10 win over Elim Christian College. These mush needed wins boosting the boys confidence heading into day 3.

As the previous days results weren’t in our favour going into Day 3, our boys would start the day vs Pukekohe taking the win 10-7.  Now heading into our last game vs Whakatane, pride was still on the line as we develop our mental toughness. Whakatane came out strong & unfortunately the boys were not able to recover going down 9-13 in our final game.  Still a lot to be celebrated & even more experience learnt as our TNT Jnr Bs we’re not even meant to attend the 3x3 Northern Championship so we count ourselves lucky that we were even able to take 2 teams.

Finishing 18th out of 23 teams, 3x3 proved that it’s a game where highs & lows come real quick.

Proud of all our boys who attended as we’re strong in numbers & Courtside at every game supporting one another.

A big thank you to Daz for taking this group away to gain the experiences they did.
