Motocross Nationals Success

Mikayla and Maz secure top 3 placings!

During the middle weekend of the school holidays, Year 10 students Mikayla Griffiths and Maz Parkes competed at the NZ Junior Motocross Championship held at Flipps MX Park in Foxton. Displaying impressive talent and skill, they blazed through five intense races, in large classes both securing top 3 impressive finishes respectively, Mikayla 2NZ and Maz 3NZ.

Maz's awesome performance in the 12-14yr 125 class, saw him qualify fastest but then a hand issue saw him place on 4th in the first race. He came back in the next races with 2nd & 3rds and fastest lap times, but his starts cost him higher places. These races culminated in an overall 3rd place in the New Zealand championship! It was a nail-biting competition, with just 4 points separating Maz and 2nd place.

Mikayla competed in the 12 -16yr 125/250 women's class and she rode home in 2nd with very clear margins behind her in the 1,2,3 and 5th motos. A very uncharacteristic bad start start from Mikayla in the 4th moto found her being caught in a holeshot pile up, being dead last.  Her pure grit and determination saw her ride hard and get to 3rd only 600 hundredths of a sec behind 2nd place on the chequered flag.  This fight from her in that moto was able to help her secure 2NZ.

Congratulations, Mikayla and Maz on your well-deserved success!
