Over the weekend, the school had a fantastic team of 15 riders head away to Karapiro for the North Island Road Cycling Championships. Horrific conditions made riding challenging, with cross winds leading many to ride solo out on the course when they were accustomed to racing in packs. The Championships started with team time trials on the Saturday morning, followed by individual road races in the afternoon around a hilly circuit. Then on Sunday, graded from Saturday's results, the short and explosive criterium races were held.
The outstanding individual performer of the event for Taupo-nui-a-Tia was Olivia Shepherd, who gained silver medals in both the individual road race and criterium. Other top 5 performances came from; Antonia Shepherd(4th U16 Girls Criterium), Tori Barrett(5th U17 Girls Criterium), Oli Barnett(5th U16 Boys Criterium) and Oli, Louie Cameron and Kian Weston(5th U16 Boys Team Trial). Alex Milne, a novice rider, excelled, winning her B Grade Criterium.
Other team members included; Ashton Upfold, Amelie Wood, Amber Nicol, Leah Kilminster, Bianca Stewart, Josie Murphy, Pipi Hunter and Makenna Giles.
