The YES Regional Awards were held at the Millenium Hotel in Rotorua on 27 October. Four Taupo nui a Tia companies were category award winners and of the ten awards up for grabs the Taupo Enterprise class won seven of them.

David Matthews and Kane Rima-Sollitt have demonstrated excellent practical skills in year 13 hospitality this year. During the year they produced meals showing their flair and creativity. These students excelled in the preparation, cooking and presentation of meals and dishes throughout the year. Both students have secured positions at restaurants in Taupo which will help shape their culinary future. They are aspiring to be excellent in their field.

Students were nominated for head students at the Year 13 leadership camp which took place at the start of term one. Sixteen students spoke at school assembly and after the votes from the students and the staff were counted the Head students for 2012 were announced. They are Dyalla Swain Head Girl, Waimarie Stone Deputy Head Girl, Taylor Griffin Head Boy, Ben Todd Deputy Head Boy

The new Design & Innovation Centre was officially opened by the Prime Minister John Key on 19 May 2012. All technology, visual art and design subjects are now under one architecturally designed roof. A major emphasis in this environment is to encourage students to 'Imagine, Design and Create'. Mr Key stated that the New Zealand economy hinges on design and and innovation and he recognised Taupo-nui-a-Tia College's success in all areas of the curriculum

At a special assembly today 42 bronze awards and 16 silver awards were award to year 9 students participating in the Taupo-nui-a-Tia College Achievers Award Scheme.

The Boys 1st XI hockey team won the Woolaston Trophy in Whakatane during the national Secondary Schools tournament week. The team remained unbeaten after 6 intense games of hockey. Congratulations boys for a fantastic effort at the tournament and for the whole season. Many thanks to coach Chris Simm, manager Alan Brake and physio Rowan Cunningham plus all the parents for their support

Hinemoa Fraser Year 13 was named Bayview Wairakei Outstanding All Rounder at the Taupo Times District Awards on Monday 17 September 2012.

Nicole van der Kaay won the Under 19 world Aquathlon title on 17 October. The race involves a 1 km swim 5 km run. Nicole competed in the age 16-19 age group and set off in wave one along with three other age groups under 35. She managed to keep within the top 10 swimmers all the way on the swim leg, and even though she had trouble with the stitch she managed to win the gold in the 16-19 age group and come in third overall in a time of 34.04.

The 2013 Head Students have been announced after the staff and students votes had been counted. The 18 candidates submitted a written application and spoke at a full school assembly.

The Taupo nui-a-Tia College and King Country pre-season 7’s tournament provided some sensational rugby on Saturday 6th April. Thirteen teams competed for championship honours in a closely fought contest.

TAUPO-NUI-A-TIA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTION 2013

DanceNZmade regional finals were held August 16 at the Great lake Centre. The overall winners were Holly Finch and Lizzie Astwood. Three TNT dance groups will be competing at the National finals in Palmerston North next month

Taupo-nui-a-Tia College student Kyle Smith has gained 2nd place in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final held in London last week. This triathlon event is the largest ever staged with representatives from around the world. Kyle raced in the 16-19 year old category and on the day of the race was 16 years and 5 days old. Kyle led for a good part of the race and only lost by a few seconds to Iden Gustav from Norway. The time he recorded was the 3rd fastest for the entire day. Kyle is a part of the college’s High Performance Programme and his teacher Heulwen Simm said she was absolutely delighted with the result. Also competing at the same event was Nicole van der Kaay. Nicole was well up with the pace of her race but unfortunately was disqualified on a minor technicality.

All the training, hard work and fundraising paid off for Te Awhiorangi - they were winners at the festival in Hawaii and brought home a huge haul of trophies. Their hugely successful year has been topped off by winning the 2013 Hauraki competition on the 19 October

The boys Under 19 Triathlon Team consisting of Keegan Pook, Lewis Eccles and Kyle Smith won the National Secondary School title in Gisborne. A fantastic effort for this group of 16 year olds

The TNT Monetary Challenge team are one of six teams heading to the national final in Wellington at the Reserve Bank on Wednesday. Team members David Young, Scott Inglis and Katie Davis beat 120 teams nationwide - Good luck!

Joshua Clarke has had a busy week, he was presented with his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by the Governor General and has received the University of Otago Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship which is valued at $5000 payable towards the cost of a residential college or tuition fees.

Taupo-nui-a-Tia College 1st XI football team kicked off their 2015 season with a 3-2 win against Otumoetai College in the weekend. The boys ran out onto the number 1 pitch at Crown Park sporting a brand new playing strip very generously sponsored by Bayleys Real Estate.

 The Taupo District Youth Awards were held on Monday. Congratulations to all students nominated. The results for TNT students are as follows:

 On Thursday 24th March the 1st XV Rugby team headed over to Te Kuiti, amid threats of heaving rain and strong winds, prepared for all weather. The resultant rather hot, humid and occasional showers did nothing to dampen their winning streak. First up was Otorohanga High School which was the most stressful game for the supporters, scoring in the last minutes of play winning 5-0. Next up was the main threat to the cup Taumarunui. The players went out with a determined attitude and proved too strong winning 26-12. The local derby between TNT and Tauhara College was played in “golden oldie style’ with them unable to produce a front row. The score TNT 29 – Tauhara 0. With the cup most in our grasp the final game was a must win against Te Kuiti. TNT left no doubt in the organisers’ eyes taking this game 17-0

 Students have been busy since February rehearsing for this year's school production - High School Musical 2. It hits the college stage 24 May for 5 performances. Tickets are on sale now at the college office

 The annual college sports awards were held 22 September. A great evening celebrating success and participation in college sport. The guest speaker was Sam Warriner, olympic triathlete.
