David Matthews and Kane Rima-Sollitt have demonstrated excellent practical skills in year 13 hospitality this year. During the year they produced meals showing their flair and creativity. These students excelled in the preparation, cooking and presentation of meals and dishes throughout the year. Nicole van der Kaay won the Under 19 world Aquathlon title on 17 October. The race involves a 1 km swim 5 km run. Nicole competed in the age 16-19 age group and set off in wave one along with three other age groups under 35. She managed to keep within the top 10 swimmers all the way on the swim leg, and even though she had trouble with the stitch she managed to win the gold in the 16-19 age group and come in third overall in a time of 34.04.Read More... Taupo-nui-a-Tia College student Kyle Smith has gained 2nd place in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final held in London last week. This triathlon event is the largest ever staged with representatives from around the world. Kyle raced in the 16-19 year old category and on the day of the race was 16 years and 5 days old. Kyle led for a good part of the race and only lost by a few seconds to Iden Gustav from Norway. The time he recorded was the 3rd fastest for the entire day. Kyle is a part of the college’s High Performance Programme and his teacher Heulwen Simm said she was absolutely delighted with the result. Also competing at the same event was Nicole van der Kaay. On Thursday 24th March the 1st XV Rugby team headed over to Te Kuiti, amid threats of heaving rain and strong winds, prepared for all weather. The resultant rather hot, humid and occasional showers did nothing to dampen their winning streak. First up was Otorohanga High School which was the most stressful game for the supporters, scoring in the last minutes of play winning 5-0. Next up was the main threat to the cup Taumarunui. The players went out with a determined attitude and proved too strong winning 26-12. The local derby between TNT and Tauhara College was played in “golden oldie style’ with them unable to produce a front row. The score TNT 29 – Tauhara 0.
